I became a lifelong fan of The Rocky Horror Picture Show after attending a midnight showing on October 29, 1994 in Nyack, New York. By 1996, I had already worked on a few small related graphic design projects, and thought making a “drippy” Rocky Horror-style typeface would be fun and useful.

In 1996, I made a rough ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ font. This was not intended for public use, but it got out into the world anyway, after I gave it to one single person online in a chat room. A valuable lesson was learned. I most recently saw this typeface used for the logo in a 2026 New Zealand production of The Rocky Horror Show.

Since then, there have been many iterations of my second attempt, Double Feature:

• October 1, 1997 - Double Feature 1.0

• April 6, 2001 - Double Feature 1.6

• February 11, 2011 - Double Feature 2.0

• April 7, 2011 - DentonDings 1.0 (a font consisting of the actual RHPS and Shock Treatment logos)

• October 24, 2011 - Double Feature 2.1

• August 27, 2025 - Double Feature 3.0

Version 3.0 includes tons of kerning pairs for better legibility, as well as a (nearly) complete Latin-1 character set.

A major feature of the font is that the uppercase and lowercase characters are different shapes, which most users tend not to notice.

Double Feature has been seen on official merchandise for bands Blood On The Dance Floor and The Shins; annually for Hulu’s Huluween promotion; and in shows like Glee, the 2016 RHPS TV remake, Brooklyn Nine Nine, Surface, Midsomer Murders, and The Rachel Maddow Show. The font can also be seen on merchandise for Eli Roth’s horror film Thanksgiving, and videos by Tenacious D and Saya. Disney / 20th Century Studios now uses Double Feature in place of the original Rocky Horror Picture Show logo on posters, disc releases and all official merchandise, even though I created DentonDings was created and gave a copy to the producer of RHPS in 2011 to avoid this very issue.
