Michael’s Fright: The Strange True Story of the Peanut Butter Solution

A favorite film of mine from childhood, The Peanut Butter Solution, was the subject of my first hour-long documentary. This doc asks the question: What if a movie was so strange, everyone who saw it as a child thought the movie was not a film at all, but a half-forgotten bad dream they once had?

I spent a lot of time with compiling articles, photos, and videos; and with research. Once this was complete, I started to contact people who had worked on the film in Montreal in 1985. With the assistance and funding of Marie Janssen and Daria Brashear, we were able to travel to Montreal in September 2019 to conduct most of the cast and crew interviews, and get footage of filming locations.

I completed the scripting, editing, graphics, music, and voiceovers in 2020 during the pandemic. I finished the edit in late 2020, and premiered the doc on YouTube on December 4, 2020, which was the 35th anniversary of the premiere of the original film.

I also created a new channel for this and other similar projects, Seamless Branching.

You can watch the documentary here on YouTube.
